This is a nova - not a supernova, a nova. It happens when a star like ours or bigger circles or orbits around a star smaller in size but denser. Eventually the denser star sucks matter from the larger size and lighter star. When the suction happens, the two stars emit more light, and this is where we get - on Earth - a "variable star." =P

This is one of the requests - it goes to . The request was: "Something like our sun." So I painted the sun, and then added some other natural phenomena... ;)

Hope you enjoy it!

Two finished... eighteen to go....

Thanks to Tess, she helped me in putting the final touch. :)

A nova is when the outter layers of a star get away , it will happen to our sun . So you kinda got it wrong . And this looks more like a star being sucked in by a black hole .

Eitherway - it looks awesome .

I am glad that either way you think it looks awesome. What you're talking about is Ejection of Planetary Nebulae not a Nova. A nova will not happen to our sun because a nova needs two stars or more. A binary system or multi star system could have a nova, not a singular star. It is still possible that nova might happen to our sun in the future, if another star gets too close to our sun and trapt in its gravity, and the sun is a white dwart by that time (after the ejection of planetary nebulae). At this case you will have:

1- White Dwarf Star where the nova actually can happen, after all, the nova takes place only with a white dwarf star (either our sun after 4 billion years or the other star could be a white dwarf)
2- A main sequence star or a red gaint (which again it could be our sun or the other star, it will depend only on the time line)
3- The proper distance for the center of gravity and other things
4- The universe which is already there
5- An eye, Bilogical or Mechanical to see all that or any instrument or tool that do the job of observation
6- A mind to understand all that.

With all that, most likely you will have a Nova, and there are many kinds of novas and this painting presents one kind. Sorry if my reply was so long but I am astronomer and I teach those things and when I start the class I go for three hours straight. Poor students who have no intrest in these things. I am so glad that you have interest in Astronomy. It's always cool to talk about it one more time.

There are lots of books talking about it and if you want to check it online there is wikipedia.org to start with. I bet you already know about it.

PS: A black whole would look black, not a shiny star.

Yeah , a blackhole wouldn't be seen very well ;)

And a star , in it's life , goes through this ( starting with already a normal star ) : normal star , red giant , nova . Or , if the star is massive : massive normal star , red supergiant , supernova . A nova is when the outer layers are released , and it will happen to our sun , since it isn't massive enough for a supernova .

Read about Nova. You have it mixed up.
